Dan Potter drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored the game-winning run to help JCU earn a split at Otterbein
The John Carroll baseball team left Westerville Saturday evening with what it came for. At least one win.

Dan Potter (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora) scored on a Tom Hickey (Orland Park, IL, Brother Rice)sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth for what proved to be the game-winning run in a 7-6 JCU victory over host Otterbein in the second game of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader.

The Cardinals had earned a 6-2 win in the opener of the twinbill staged at Fishbaugh Stadium.

Box Scores:  Game One  /  Game Two

In the opener, John Carroll scored first with a run in the second, but Otterbein answered with two runs in the second and third and never looked back.

Potter went 3-4 and Brian Benander (Richmond Heights, OH, Cleveland St. Ignatius) hit his first home run of the year to highlight the John Carroll offensive effort.

In the second game, John Carroll tallied four runs in the second aided by a two-run single by Chris Larry (Grand Island, NY, Buffalo St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute). But Otterbein answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Potter came up with RBI hits in the fourth and sixth to plate single runs, but the Cardinals tied the score at 6-6 in the seventh.

JCU broke the tie in the top of the ninth, as Potter led off with a walk and advanced to third on a single by Benander. Hickey came through with a one out sacrifice fly that scored Potter.

Doug Finley (Bermuda Dunes, CA, Xavier College Prep) worked a scoreless ninth for the save, allowing just a two-out walk. Joe Bossard (Sagamore Hills, OH, Trinity) picked up the win in relief.

John Carroll moves to 7-10 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, while Otterbein is now 9-7 and 1-1 in league play.
