Tom Schaberl allowed just one earned run in six innings against the number six ranked team in Division III
When a game is decided by an error and a hit batsmen, it can be a tough way to lose.
Just ask the Blue Streaks.
Facing the #6 ranked Heidelberg Student Princes, John Carroll needed a near perfect effort to pull off an upset Thursday afternoon at Schweickert Field. They were close in game one and again in game two, but in both cases, it was not meant to be.
The Blue Streaks fell by a 2-0 score in the opener, and trailed 3-2 entering the seventh inning of game two before dropping an 11-2 decision.

Game One /
Game Two
The only two runs in the opener came in the top of the fifth innings. JCU starter
Tom Schaberl and Heidelberg starter Nathan James were locked in a duel in which the two gave up a combined five hits over the first four innings.
In the decisive fifth, following a one out walk, Zach Colatruglio singled to left field. The throw came in behind Buelow as he was running for third, and was cut off by
Brian Benander. In trying to throw out Colatruglio at second, a miscue between Benander and
Patrick Stone allowed for both Heidelberg runners to advance -- including Buelow who scored the game's first run.
A single and a hit batsmen loaded the bases with two outs. A second consecutive hit batsmen scored Colatruglio from third for the second and final run of the game.
John Carroll had a 5-4 edge in hits, and stranded seven runners compared to Heidelberg's six.
Schaberl perhaps deserved a better fate. He allowed just one earned run on four hits, striking out five while walking one.
The second game was close through the first six innings. Heidelberg opened up with two runs in the first but JCU scored a pair of runs on wild pitches in the second.
The score remained deadlocked until the 'Berg scored a single run in the sixth.
The seventh inning was when the floodgates opened, as Heidelberg's offense finally got clicking on all cylinders. The visitors put the game out of reach with five runs in the seventh, one in the eighth and two in the ninth.
With the victories, Heidelberg improved to 20-4 overall and 4-0 in the OAC. JCU slips to 7-12 overall and 1-3 in league play.
