JCU Baseball Runs Into A Marietta Buzzsaw In Chillicothe

Chris Larry drove in John Carroll's lone run in the opener of its doubleheader against Marietta
There would no sugarcoating applied to the result of today's doubleheader between John Carroll and Marietta.

The oft-postponed date of this Ohio Athletic Conference match-up held at V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio, was one-sided in favor of the top ranked team in the nation.

Marietta won the opener by an 11-1 count, then carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning of game two in what ended in an 11-0 Pioneers victory

Box Scores:  Game One  /  Game Two

Game on was more competitive then the score would suggest, as Marietta scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to break it wide open.

JCU's lone run of the day came in the third inning. Trailing 2-0, John Carroll's Chris Larry drove in Joe Veltri with two outs.

But Marietta scored three in the bottom of the third to take a 5-1 lead.

In game two, Marietta led 11-0 as starter Austin Blaski allowed zero hits through the first eight innings. Bill Homan, playing in just his third game of the season, broke up the no-hit bid with a lead-off single in the ninth.

Marietta is now 31-3 overall and 14-1 in the OAC, while John Carroll falls to 16-17 and 9-7 in league action.
