The John Carroll University Blue Streaks women's soccer team will play their first Ohio Athletic Conference competition tonight as they host the visiting Marietta College Pioneers Friday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium
The Blue Streaks are coming into the competition with an overall record of four wins and four losses on the year, including losing their last two matches after winning four straight games. The Pioneers will also be playing their first OAC match of the year tonight, as they come into the game sporting an overall record of 1-5-1 on the season.
After winning their first game of the season, the Pioneers haven't won a game since then as they've lost five times and tied once, being outscored 12-5 over the course of their last six games. The Pioneers have also been outshot by their opponents on the season by a wide gap of 122 total shots for their opponents compared to only 88 shots for themselves.
This is a good sign for the Blue Streaks. Despite only being 4-4 on the season, the Blue Streaks have dominated their opponents when it comes to shot totals. The Blue Streaks have taken 144 shots as a team this year compared to only 85 for their opponents, proving that they can consistently keep pressure on opposing defenses and goalkeepers.
The Blue Streaks have also proven that they are tough to beat on their home turf, as they are a perfect 3-0 when playing at Don Shula Stadium this season and will look to improve that mark to 4-0 with a win over Marietta College.
When these two teams met during the 2010 season in Marietta, JCU came away with an impressive 4-1 win over the host Pioneers, where current senior
Colleen Harmon had one goal and two assists in that win over Marietta. Harmon will play a key role again for the Blue Streaks in tonight's game as well, as she leads the Blue Streaks on the season with five goals and three assists, nearly double as many total points as the next player.
