Tough Luck For Spagna Spills Over As JCU Baseball Drops Two League Contests

Dan Potter had a team-high three hits in the nightcap against Mount Union
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Complete game six hitters usually are a good sign. For John Carroll sophomore pitcher Jimmy Spagna, it proved to be an omen.

Despite allowing just one run on six hits, Spagna was a tough luck loser Thursday in Alliance, Ohio, as John Carroll fell in game one of a doubleheader, 1-0. The tough luck spilled over to game two as the Blue Streaks fell behind early and played catch up to no avail in falling, 10-6.

Box Scores:  Game One  /  Game Two

Spagna had one uneven inning, and it proved costly. In the bottom of the second, two walks followed by a one out single by Anthony Morino drove in the game's lone run with a single.

JCU simply could not muster offense against Purple Raider starter Anthony Carlino then took overas he retired the next nine batters.

There appeared to be hope in the seventh when Ryan Konsler reached third on an Aaron Miller single with two outs, but a ground out ended the threat.

In the nightcap, the home team put up a three spot in both the first and second innings, and never looked back. Dan Potter had three of John Carroll's nine hits.

John Carroll is now 10-13 overall and 3-5 in the OAC. Mount Union, which has now won seven of its last eight games, is 19-8 overall and 5-3 in league play.
