Ryan Konsler makes a key catch in the late innings of John Carroll's sweep over Muskingum
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Timely hitting and superb pitching lifted the John Carroll Baseball team to a two game sweep over Muskingum -- and back into playoff contention -- Tuesday afternoon at Schweickert Field.

JCU won game one by a 4-3 score, then rallied with a pair of runs late to take game two, 2-1.

Box Scores:  Game One  Game Two

The Blue Streaks (14-13, 7-5 OAC) did all their offensive damage in the first inning of game one as they capitalized on three Colten Maxwell walks when shortstop Mark Huddle cleared the bases with his two-out bases loaded double.  Blue Streaks right fielder Ryan Konsler would then send Huddle home following an RBI double of his own, giving John Carroll the only four runs they needed to secure the victory.

Other than the first and second innings where he allowed two runs and three walks, Blue Streaks starting pitcher Jimmy Spagna was flawless.  Spagna, who improved his record to 3-4, threw six innings allowing only one earned run on only two hits.  Blue Streaks closer Kevin Rosinski secured the John Carroll victory in the seventh with his third save of the 2012 campaign.

In game two, John Carroll's Joe Bossard and Muskingum's Logan Addison each went the first six innings without relinquishing a run.  Then in the seventh, Muskingum second baseman Will Simpson broke the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly that scored T.J Howsare, who led off the inning with a double.

Down 1-0 in the home half of the seventh, the Blue Streaks would finally get to Addison when second baseman Bobby Sabatino brought Ryan Konsler home on a sacrifice fly, tying the game at one.  Two batters later following a Dan Potter two out double, centerfielder Joe Veltri would single which allowed Potter to score the eventual game winning run for the Blue & Gold.

Freshman Tyler Ferretti would then come into the ballgame in the eighth inning in relief of Bossard.  The Blue & Gold rookie threw a one-two-three eighth inning, which segued to Rosinski's second save of the day.  The save did not come easy for Rosinski however as the Muskies threatened with runners on first and second with only one out in the ninth, until Matt Connor bounced into a game ending double play that ended the rally, and clinched the sweep for John Carroll.

Joe Bossard improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory in what was his longest outing of the season.  The senior out of Sagamore Hills pitched seven innings allowing only one earned run on five hits.  Tyler Ferretti and Kevin Rosinski in relief only gave up a combined one hit while not allowing a run in the eighth and ninth innings.

Muskingum starting pitcher Logan Addison falls to 1-3 on the season as the Fighting Muskies fall to 14-15, 7-5 OAC.

The wins have JCU in a fourth place tie (along with Muskingum) with six games remaining. Only the top four teams make the OAC postseason tournament field
