Connor Marrero scored the go-ahead run in the third inning, and it was all JCU would need
Box Score Riding the arms of a pair of "rookie" pitchers, the John Carroll baseball team went in to Delaware, Ohio and made the right moves to score a 3-1 non-conference win over Ohio Wesleyan University Wednesday afternoon.
Box Score
The home Battling Bishops, who came into the game batting .308 as a team, could muster only five hits and an earned run against the JCU freshman pitching duo of
Andrew Doring and
Tyler Ferretti.
Despite only managing seven hits of their own, John Carroll produced a three-run third inning that gave the visitors all the run-support they would need. Two hits, coupled with two Ohio Wesleyan errors, scored
Mark Huddle,
Connor Marrero, and
Bobby Sabatino.
The pitching staff took it from there.
Doring struck out five and allowed one run (unearned) in four and two-thirds innings, before Ferretti slammed the door shut to pick up his third win of the season.
Thanks to the victory, the Blue Streaks improve to 17-15 on the year, while the Battling Bishops slip to 21-15.
JCU currently stands alone in fourth place in the OAC with an 8-6 league record and four conference games to play. The top four seeds will qualify to participate in the 2012 OAC Tournament.
