Box Score Every player on a team plays a role. With three goals from the bench the John Carroll University men's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over visiting Marietta College on Saturday afternoon inside of Don Shula Stadium.

John Carroll took control from the start blasting shot after shot on Marietta but the starting unit could not find the back of the net.

"At home, we want to control ever game," said head coach Hector Marinaro. "We want to control the tempo and the way we play. The guys did that. The guys from the bench really gave us a spark today."

Mariusz Trzeciak checked in during the 34th minute which immediately ignited the Blue Streak offense. Three minutes after checking in, Trzeciak put the Blue Streaks on the board from just outside the box.

Four minutes later Trzeciak sent a bullet off of the right post. Tim Delaney picked up the ensuing rebounds and cleaned up the play for his first collegiate goal to give John Carroll a 2-0 edge at the half.

"Quite honestly, the bench won the game for us today," said Marinaro. "They came off the bench and changed the game. The starting 11 were kind of stalling. Guys came off the bench and really gave us a spark. It led to three goals."

Despite not finding the back of the net for the second straight game after scoring in five straight, Brian Potocnik still directed the offense with two assists to give him six on the season.

Jimmy Mattina and Wycliffe Odhiambo added goals for John Carroll in the second half. Chris Garbinsky picked up his second straight shutout in goal. Despite only having one save, Garbinsky prevented a last-minute goal by the Pioneers on a breakaway opportunity.

John Carroll improved to 10-2-0 on the season including a 3-0-0 mark in OAC play. The Blue Streaks were lights out all day finishing with a 33-5 shot advantage and a 10-1 edge on corner kicks.

The men's soccer team will host Mount Union on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
