After Friday night's game being postponed due to a power outage at Gilmour Academy Ice Arena, the
JCU hockey team found themselves in a tough spot. The week's final practice had been cancelled the
day before due to the same outage and the team was scheduled to travel to Taylor, MI to take on the
Eastern Michigan University Eagles. But the games must go on so the Blue Streaks went up to Michigan
prepared to battle.
As the Sunday matinee got off to a slow start the Streaks looked rusty, like they hadn't been on the ice
in a few days. But as the game went on JCU looked better and better, and finally they got the better of
the Eagles. Freshman
Kevin Vinyard broke a scoreless tie early in the second period to give JCU a lead
that would hold up thanks to some great goaltending from Senior
Justin Camuto. Before the period was
over the John Carroll lead would extend to 3-0 on a power play goal by
Mike Gionta and a nice shot from
In the third it was more of Camuto who made 36 saves for his second shutout of the season. Russell
would add another goal late in the game to give JCU a 4-0 win in a tough road game against a quality
opponent.
This weekend Blue Streaks resume league play when they host the Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Crimson Hawks on Friday at 8:10 pm at the Gilmour Academy Ice Arena. Saturday night JCU travels to
Pittsburgh to face The Robert Morris University (PA) Colonials. Come out Friday night and cheer on JCU
hockey!
