John Carroll jumped all over Eastern Nazarane College early, and continued the hit parade throughout the day as the Blue Streak baseball team swept the Lions 13-0 and 9-4 on Thursday in Fort Myers, Florida.
In game one,
David Lykens led an offense that scored eight runs in the first three innings, while
Jimmy Spagna pitched six scoreless innings to notch his first victory of the season.
Lykens contributed four RBI while the Blue & Gold pounded out 18 hits.
Vincent Trivisonno relieved Spagna and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to preserve a JCU unanswered run streak that would reach 36 and extend into game two.
In the afternoon contest, the John Carroll bats picked up where they left off with a run in the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth to give junior pitcher
Anthony Libertini plenty of cushion.
Ryan Konsler was an offensive dynamo with two triples and one double in game two.
Eastern Nazarene showed life with a trio of runs in the fifth inning, but the JCU bullpen, consisting off
Zach Verner and
Kevin Rosinski, shut the door for the school's third consecutive victory. Libertini picked up the win after allowing just two earned runs in 5.0 innings.
With the doubleheader sweep, the Streaks improve to 6-3 in 2013.
