A balk in the bottom of the 11th inning was how a two-game set in New Concord ended for the John Carroll baseball team. The fact that JCU had one game one by a 7-1 score seemed to lose its luster following an 8-7 loss in game two.

Aaron Lapaglia was the story in the opener for John Carroll, as the freshman improved to 6-0 on the year with another solid performance on the mound. he went all seven innings for the win, allowing just one earned run on five hits. He walked one and while did not record a strikeout, he got stronger as the game went on, allowing just one hit after the third inning.

Whiel Lapaglia kept Muskingum batters at bay, it took a four-run sixth for the offense to put the game away. Chet Lauer had the big hit, plating two runs with an RBI single.

Seven of the nine starters collected at least one hit as JCU collected ten hits on the day. Mitchell Herringshaw belted his second home run of the season.

The second game saw John Carroll burst out to a 5-0 lead through 3 1/2 innings, but Muskingum rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-6 lead.

The Blue Streaks tied the game at 7-7 with a Connor Marrero RBI single in the top of the sixth, but that would be the last run either team scored until the bottom of the 11th. That was when, with two outs and runners on first and third, a miscommunication led to a balk call against John Carroll that sent the winning run home.

Collectively, the two teams combined to leave 33 runners on base.

Marrero was 4-5 with two runs and two RBI to lead an offense that produced 16 hits and drew a season-high nine walks.

John Carroll is now 19-10 overall and 8-4 (3rd) in the OAC, while Muskingum moves to 6-20 overall and 5-7 (T-6th) in league play.
