After last weekend's two close losses to the University of Michigan-Dearborn, the Blue Streak hockey team looked to bounce back with wins against a local rival and a league foe. Needing two wins to get back on track, JCU was out to show their opponents that last week was no indication of what was to come.

Opening the Weekend with a late game Friday night at the University of Akron against the Zips, the Streaks got off to a slow start. Akron had some chances before Tyler Rhodes opened the scoring midway through the first period. Before the end of the frame JCU would add three more goals with Rhodes connecting again and Mike Gionta and Logan Lopicka adding one each. In the second it was more JCU as Brad Harcourt and Kevin Vinyard each connected, while Lopicka added his second of the game. Akron got on the board early in the third before Tyler Potts and Brandon Gallo rounded out the scoring for John Carroll in the 9-1 victory. Matt Russell was strong in net for his first win of the season for JCU.

Saturday night the Blue Streaks looked to avenge one of their early season conference losses to the Slippery Rock Pride. The Blue Streaks came out and dominated the first period and finally broke the scoreless tie late in the first when Logan Lopicka fired a shot past the Slippery Rock net minder off a faceoff. In the second JCU began to physically dominate as well. Then Jeff Russell and Alex Barilec added power play goals to extend the John Carroll lead to 3-0 before the Pride added a power play goal of their own. Kevin Vinyard added a goal off a nice feed from Joe McAuliffe to give John Carroll a 4-1 lead after two. In the third Lou Morici and Logan Lopicka tallied for JCU while the Pride got two of their own. The game ended in a 6-3 triumph for JCU. Justin Camuto made 23 saves for the win in net.

Next weekend the team travels to Wheeling where they will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in a big game in the CHMA title race. The Blue Streaks will return home on January 31st to host the Pitt Panthers.
