As the end of the season approaches, the John Carroll University men's soccer team shows no sign of slowing down.
The Blue Streaks handled Baldwin Wallace University at home, marking JCU's tenth consecutive victory. With three games left to play, the Blue and Gold stand at 13-3 overall, including 6-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
The ten-match winning streak is the longest by a John carroll squad since the 2001 team reeled off 12 consecutive victories en route to an NCAA postseason appearance.
The streak seemed to be at risk early on in the contest. The Yellow Jackets pressured the JCU defense in the opening minutes before breaking through in the seventh minute. Michael Brennan tabbed a shot past goalkeeper
Derek Jenkins to give BW an early 1-0 lead.
The deficit quickly lit a fire under the Blue Streaks. JCU peppered the BW net with shots for the next ten minutes of the period.
Kevin Pachuta finally rocketed the ball into the net to knot the game at one in the 19th minute.
Dalton Browsky and
Brian Potocnik each received assists on the Pachuta's fifth tally of the year.
Less than two minutes later, the Blue and Gold struck again. This time, Pachuta set up Potocnik to give JCU the lead. The goal was Potocnik's 14th of the season, tops in the OAC. The Blue Streaks entered the half with a 2-1 lead on the scoreboard and a 12-3 shot advantage on the scoresheet.
The hosts added an insurance goal just seven minutes into the second half. With help from
Dalton Browsky,
Jacob Lombardo beat BW goalkeeper Zach Haynes and notched his third goal of the season.
Later in the half, the Blue Streaks completely erased any chance of a BW comeback. Streaking down the right side of the field alone with a defender, Potocnik poked a pass across the field to
Mariusz Trzeciak, who powered a shot into the net. Trzeciak's fourth goal of the season upped JCU's lead to 4-1. Both Potocnik and
Tristan Lyles received assists on the play.
Baldwin Wallace could not muster any goals the rest of the game, dropping the Yellow Jackets to 7-9-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.
The Blue and Gold finished with an impressive 10 shots on goal, the fifth straight game JCU has recorded 10 or more shots on net.
The Blue Streaks play next on Saturday on the road at Capital University at 2 p.m.
