Women's Soccer Ends Regular Season With Draw At Muskingum

Playing at night on the final day of the regular season, the John Carroll University women's soccer team needed a win and some help in order to host a first round OAC Tournament game.

Setting out to take care of its part of the equation, John Carroll got on the board just before halftime. However, the lead would not hold up as Muskingum scored the equalizer early in the second half.

For the seventh time this year the Blue Streaks took a match into overtime. For the fourth time this year it ended in a draw. John Carroll (10-4-4, 4-2-3 OAC) battled Muskingum (9-7-2, 2-6-1 OAC) to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in New Concord, Ohio.

Kristen Kertis scored her first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute. John Carroll capitalized on a free kick with Andrea Regrut setting Kertis up. The freshman buried the shot into the top right of the net from the left wing.

Muskingum senior Moriah Mathies netted the equalizer in the 49th minute. Mathies broke free from the Blue Streak defense and beat JCU goalkeeper Haley McDonald sending the shot into the lower left corner.

John Carroll had a scare in the 35th minute off of a corner kick. Muskingum's Morgan Price rifled a header towards the lower right corner of the net. The Blue Streak defense came through with McDonald unable to get over in time clearing the shot out.

The Blue Streaks had a key chance in the 75th minute. With a loose ball being played into the box Fighting Muskie goalie Melissa Emmerich was drawn out of the net. Regrut faced with a wide-open net was unable to connected hitting her shot off the post.

McDonald and Chrissy Garcia came up big in the second overtime period. McDonald punched a shot by Summer Setliff over the crossbar in the 102nd minute. The Blue Streaks had trouble with the ensuing corner kick which got through the JCU defense. Garcia, the last defender the Fighting Muskies had to beat was able to clear the shot in the 103rd minute.
