Two teams with numerous deep threats squared off on Saturday afternoon in Marietta, Ohio. Combined, both teams opened the game with 12 of the first 19 field goals coming on 3-pointers.

A lights out afternoon from behind the arc from No. 24 Marietta led to an 82-68 win for the Pioneers inside Ban Johnson Arena.

Marietta came out on fire hitting four of its first five 3-point attempts to open up a quick 12-4 lead less than three minutes into the contest. For the game the Pioneers would finish 16 of 36 from deep.

John Carroll answered right back with a 12-0 run of its own to claim a 16-12 lead with 10:06 remaining in the half. The Blue Streaks were aided with three long balls of their own from
Danny Wallack,
Tony Vuyancih and
Will Starks.
The deep threats continued with the Pioneers immediately connecting on back-to-back trifectas to retake the lead at 18-16. An 8-0 run from Marietta aided by two more 3-pointers opened up a 28-20 lead for the Pioneers with 6:56 left in the stanza.

John Carroll tied the score at 29 after a 9-1 run led by four points from
Ryan Farragher before the Pioneers would open up a six-point halftime lead on Luis Garcia's fourth 3-pointer of the afternoon.

Down, 55-43, John Carroll utilizes a 7-0 run to pull within five at 55-50 after a pair of free throws from
David Linane. It would be the closest the Blue Streaks would get for the remainder of the game.

Jake Hollinger led John Carroll with 15 points. Joining Hollinger in double figures were
David Hendrickson (14) and Farragher (12).

Marietta's RaNeal Ewing led all scorers with 24 points.

The loss snapped John Carroll's five-game win streak as the Blue and Gold fell to 5-2, 4-1 OAC. Marietta improved to 10-0, 5-0 OAC.

John Carroll remains on the road and will take part in the St. Norbert Holliday Tournament. John Carroll opens play against UW-Stout at 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday, Dec. 29. Host St. Norbert and St. Scholastica round out the tournament field.
