Will Starks' Career Night Helps Propel Men's Basketball Past Otterbein

A dominant offensive performance led to yet another OAC win for the John Carroll University men's basketball team.

Three-point baskets were falling all evening long as John Carroll topped Otterbein 92-72 on Wednesday night at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center in University Heights, Ohio.

Right from the opening tip-off, JCU was firing long-range shots around the perimeter as it tallied 32 points in just the first 10 minutes of the contest. In contrast Otterbein scored 34 points in the first half.

Junior Will Starks was in the zone right from the outset as he keyed a 13-0 run in the early stages of the first half.

The Cardinals faced a 55-34 deficit at halftime as they committed nine turnovers and were out-rebounded 28-24. Sophomore Jake Phillis was one of the few bright spots for Otterbein as he contributed 15 of his 17 points in the opening frame.

Back to Starks and his career day. The junior fueled the offense of the second platoon as he was accountable for 17 of the Blue Streaks 55 first half points off the bench, matching his career-best set less than two weeks ago against SUNY-Potsdam. He finished his breakout performance with 21 points, a new career-high for the guard.

Sophomore David Linane was also a factor for the Blue Streaks as he filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists. JCU's point guard on the other platoon, Ryan Farragher, filled the stat sheet with six assists of his own.

JCU entered play ranked sixth in the nation in scoring offense and did not disappoint reaching 90 points for the seventh time this year.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks improve to 10-3, 6-1 OAC including a perfect 4-0 mark at home. John Carroll will travel to Mount Union to take on the Purple Raiders on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m.
