For the second consecutive game, John Carroll football shut out their opponent.
Â
After blanking Capital last Saturday, the Blue Streaks knocked off visiting Muskingum University, 30-0 on Halloween afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.
Â
The Blue Streaks have now kept opponents off the scoreboard in eight straight quarters, and have only allowed one touchdown in the last 12 quarters.
Â
John Carroll (7-1, 6-1 OAC) was spurred on offense by sophomore Ro Golphin, who racked up 136 rushing yards and a 73-yard touchdown. Jordan D'Orazio had nine receptions for 134 yards, including a 72-yard catch on the first play from scrimmage. Quarterback Jake Schaefer threw for 234 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Â
The Blue Streaks held the Muskies to 104 total yards.
Â
The Blue Streaks set the tone with a two-play, 75-yard first drive that took all of 35 seconds. The early game dominance was supported by the 72-yard reception by D'Orazio and a three-yard touchdown run from Stan Elad II. Seconds later, sophomore safety Ray Brewster picked off an opposing pass to cap off an action-packed first three minutes.
Â
At the 7:56 mark in the first quarter, Schaefer connected with Nico James on a fade route toward the back corner of the end zone for a one-yard score and a 14-0 lead. The defensive effort of JCU kept the Muskingum offense at bay for the remainder of the first quarter.
Â
After a 21-minute offensive scoring drought, the Blue Streaks returned to the scoring column thanks to a 23-yard field goal from Jake Vivonetto. Moments later, JCU halted a Muskingum drive thanks to a tipped pass that landed into the outstretched hands of Andy Bryan for an interception.
Â
Heading into the intermission, the Blue Streak defensive corps held the Fighting Muskies to 19 passing yards and 43 rushing yards on the way to a 17-0 advantage.
Â
A defensive stop and productive offensive drive was just what John Carroll needed to begin the third quarter. The two-minute drive accounted for 36 yards of Blue Streak offense and gave Vivonetto a 28-yard chip shot field goal to bring the lead to 20.
  Â
Golphin was the next JCU player to make his mark on Saturday afternoon after he broke through for a 73-yard rushing touchdown. The speedy sophomore back has registered eight rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown on the fall campaign.
Â
The remainder of the contest was highlighted by the stingy Blue Streak defense and the boot of Vivonetto. JCU finished the afternoon with three interceptions and four sacks on Kevin Peterson, the opposing freshman quarterback.
Â
Vivonetto was busy as he doubled his converted field goal total this season with a trio of kicks (23, 28, and 37 yards).
Â
Next up, the Blue Streaks travel to Westerville, OH to take on the Otterbein Cardinals on Saturday at 1:30 pm at Memorial Stadium.
