The John Carroll University men's basketball team has been lights out on the road of late.
Â
John Carroll topped Muskingum 101-79 on Sunday afternoon at the Muskingum Recreation Center in New Concord, Ohio. With the win the Blue Streaks end the regular season at 19-5, 15-3 OAC.
Â
The victory marks the most wins by a Mike Moran-led team since the 2010-11 squad finished 19-9. The Blue and Gold had not won 15 OAC games in a season since the 2009-10 season. Additionally, the Blue Streaks close the regular-season with a six-game win streak, a feat last accomplished during the 2009-10 campaign when JCU won 11 straight games.
Â
John Carroll has now reached the century mark four times this season including each of its last three OAC road contests.
Â
The Blue Streaks raced out to a 16-0 lead before the game was even four minutes old and never looked back. Six players found the scoring column in the opening assault with
Tony Vuyancih capping the stretch with a 3-pointer.
Â
Joshua Glass's 3-pointer with 11:13 remaining in the opening half made it an 11-point game at 27-16. John Carroll responded with a layup from
Jake Hollinger pushing the lead right back to 13.
Â
Muskingum would make it an 11-point contest again on Cody Seiler's layup making it a 29-18 contest with 9:12 remaining in the opening stanza. That would be the closest the Fighting Muskies would come the rest of the game.
Â
Ryan Farragher made JCU's ensuing six points pushing the lead out to 15. The Blue and Gold would lead by as many as 19 in the first half after Hollinger's jumper made it a 42-23 game with 5:08 to go in the first half.
Â
David Linane took over to start the second half. After not scoring in the first half, the sophomore scored the Blue Streaks first eight points of the half, pushing JCU's lead to 20 at 59-39.
Â
The second platoon rattled off an 8-0 run capped from Vuyancih to put the game out of reach at 86-60 with 8:30 remaining.
Â
Will Starks led the Blue Streaks with 17 points.
David Hendrickson (16), Linane (12) and
Doug Caputo (10) joined the junior in double figures.
Â
John Carroll won the rebounding battle 47-36 and were led by Caputo and Hollinger who combined for 17.
Â
Muskingum, who ended its season at 6-19, 3-15 OAC, was led by Logan Kimble's game-high 21 points.
Â
With Marietta's win over Ohio Northern, John Carroll will be the No. 2 seed for the OAC Tournament. John Carroll will host Heidelberg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
