Looking to end its two-game skid, the John Carroll University men's lacrosse team had to weather the elements and an extended opposition run.
Â
Despite a strong start, John Carroll could not overcome a 7-0 run dropping an 11-8 nonconference tilt to visiting Aurora on Friday evening inside a rainy Don Shula Stadium.
Â
The Blue Streaks would strike for three tallies in the first four minutes of the contest and dominated all aspects of the game. Sophomore
Declan O'Grady had the Blue and Gold on the board just 28 seconds into the contest off a feed from freshman
Logan Calhoun.
Â
The freshman would find the back of the net with 12:05 remaining for his first of two markers in the contest. O'Grady capped the strong start with his second strike of the game.
Â
The early domination would not hold. John Carroll's offense was held quiet for most of the remainder of the quarter. Aurora's ball control took over with the Spartans scoring the next seven goals to take a 7-3 lead with 2:29 remaining in the first.
Â
Collin Rice found
Gary Anile with 1:39 left in the opening stanza to stop the run.
Â
John Carroll would be unable to get closer than a three-goal deferential for the remainder of the game. Goals from O'Grady and Calhoun made the score 8-5 and 6-9 respectively.
Â
The Blue Streaks tried to make a late push in the fourth quarter.
Jack MacLean beat the Spartan defense in transition and put home his first career goal 7:21 remaining in the contest. O'Grady would trim Aurora's lead back to three with just over five minutes remaining.
Â
Kyle Lake made 14 saves in the loss for the Blue and Gold.
Â
Aurora improved to 2-4 with the win while John Carroll fell to 1-3.
