There is the hope within the John Carroll softball team that the bitter taste of a 10-3 loss to Widener to end the day Thursday will not last long.
Perhaps it will be the start of a new streak for JCU -- one that looks a lot like the six-game winning streak that just came to an end.
In the opening contest at Hancock park Thursday morning, the Blue Streaks scored early and often to cruise to a 5-1 victory over DeSales.
Lauren Cianciolo began the bottom of the first by reaching on an error.
Alyssa Coleman then reached on a one-out single.
Carly Simecek and
Ally Kleinhans were able to bring home the first two runners to stake John Carroll a 2-0 lead.
In the very next frame, the Blue Streaks added a third run when
Hannah Mizener drove home
Taylor Tercek from third with two outs.Â
Insurance was provided in the fifth inning as Christe Wade doubled in Coleman and Simecek for a 5-0 JCU advantage.
Ann Marie Kirchner was solid in her start, improving to 3-1. In six innings, she scattered seven hits and did not allow a single run. Wade and Kleinhand each had two hits as part of a ten-hit attack in support of Kirchner.
The Blue Streaks never got on track in game two, as Widener broke open a close game with seven runs over the last three inings. John Carroll managed just five hits, with Ciaciolo scoring two of her team's three runs and
Ashlee Unrue scoring the other.
Although JCU's winning streak was snapped at six, the Blue Streaks still take a 6-2 record into their final two games of the 2015 Florida trip.
