Simecek With Two Walk-Offs In Softball Sweep Over BW

One was a walk-off home run. The other was a walk-off single that pushed the score to the run rule. The verdict, Carly Simecek had a big day at the plate.

Backed by Simecek's two walk-offs and AnnMarie Kirchner's no-hitter John Carroll swept visiting Baldwin Wallace 4-3, 8-0 on Monday afternoon at Bracken Field in University Hts., Ohio.

John Carroll improved to 18-10, 8-4 OAC while Baldwin Wallace fell to 10-18, 2-10 OAC.

Game One
John Carroll 4, Baldwin Wallace 3

Simecek crushed a one-out home run to left center to hand John Carroll the 4-3 walk-off win in a back-and-forth affair in the first game of the twin bill.

The game was tied at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3 before the sophomore catcher's sixth mash of the year.

John Carroll gained a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Alyssa Coleman hit a sacrifice fly to plate Taylor Tercek. Baldwin Wallace immediately responded with a RBI single from Tori Young.

John Carroll answered with a run in its half of the fourth inning to take the 2-1 lead. Ashlee Unrue, who hit two home runs on Saturday, continued her hot streak with a solo shot to left.

The lead would not hold as BW scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth to take the 3-2 lead.

JCU tied the game in the sixth thanks to a key BW error. Mikki Vance scored on a fielding error by Yellow Jacket shortstop Alicia Hack.

Simecek led the way at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Rachel Byrnes moved into second all-time in wins at JCU. The senior right-hander improved to 10-5 on the year. She struck out six in the win.

Five-Inning Game (Run Rule)

The sophomore right-hander struck out four and did not walk a batter. Two Yellow Jackets reached base via errors.

The game was not without drama as a rain delay of approximately 40 minutes occurred with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

John Carroll jumped on Baldwin Wallace starter Samantha Dostall for two runs in the first inning. JCU loaded the bases before Ally Kleinhans laced a two-out, two-run single into center field bringing in Coleman and Simecek.

The Blue Streaks added two in the second inning. This time it was Hannah Mizener's turn for the big hit. Her two-run double plated Vance and Laura Cianciolo.

Simecek smashed her second home run in the fourth inning, a two-run shot to make the score 6-0. The Blue Streaks added a third run in the frame on Victoria Eder's RBI groundout prior to Mother Nature taking over.

Simecek delivered the knockout punch with a one-out single through the left side to plate Cianciolo.

The sophomore went 3-for-3 with three hits and three RBIs.
