Late Goal Lifts Capital Past Women's Lacrosse On Senior Day

When the offense gets going the goals comes in bunches for the John Carroll University women's lacrosse team.
 
However it was a bunch of goals late from visiting Capital giving the Crusaders the narrow 11-10 win over the Blue Streaks on Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.
 
Capital took a 3-0 lead on Kara Hines' free position shot with 22:34 remaining in the first half. From there John Carroll ripped off three goals in a 2:23 stretch with Meghan Harte, Annamae Bolen and Gina Vilsack finding the back of the net to tie the score.
 
Hines would score three more times in the first half but goals from Grace Curatolo and Olivia Marsh would keep it a one-goal deficit.
 
Four straight from JCU including three in just over a two-minute stretch gave the Blue Streaks a 10-8 lead with 3:03 remaining in the game. Bolen started the four-goal run with her second of the contest just before the midway point of the second half. Roserita DiMillo (two) and Vilsack scored the other goals during the stretch.
 
The lead would not hold as the Crusaders would find the back of the net three times over the final 2:25 of the game.
 
Capital finished the game with advantages in shots (21-18) and draw controls (15-8). John Carroll had a 25-23 edge in ground balls.
 
John Carroll fell to 9-3, 3-1 OAC and had its seven-game win streak snapped. Capital improved to 9-3, 3-2 OAC.

Prior to the game the team honored senior captain Moira Kelley who has played an key role in the team's first year as a varsity program.
 
John Carroll heads out on the road for a 7 p.m. tilt at Mount Union on Wednesday, April 22.
