On some nights, like Saturday night in Geneva, the John Carroll men's soccer team just finds that its offense clicks.
Since being shutout for the first time in 20 matches on September 16, the Blue Streaks have erupted for six goals in their last two matches. Last Saturday, it was three goals in a 3-0 win over Hiram. This Saturday, it was three goals again in a 4-1 triumph on the road over the host Golden Tornadoes.
Three of this evenings goals belonged to John Carroll, while one was an own goal by Geneva.
All three of John Carroll's goals were started by passes from senior
Kevin Pachuta. Even the own goal had Pachuta's imprint, as he was the last Blue Streak to touch the ball before the Golden Tornadoes tapped it in.
John Carroll got on the board in the 11th minute when Pachuta sent in a corner kick that was headed in by
Dalton Browsky for his sixth goal of the season.
The own goal came in the 24th minute, and John Carroll would take that 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Blue Streaks padded their advantage when
Michael Melfi scored off a Pachuta feed in the 50th minute. It was a great reward for Melfi. who missed the entire 2014 campaign due to injury, as he tallied his first goal since scoring in a 4-0 win over Heidelberg on October 29, 2013.
Less than four minutes later,
Jesse Marinaro scored his third goal of the season to make the score 4-0.
Pachuta's three assists were the most by a Blue Streak since Alex Bernot helped on three goals against Bridgewater (VA) in a 5-0 win on September 1, 2007.
Geneva would break up the shutout with a goal in the 74th minute, but that would put an end to the scoring for the night.
Liam McIntosh made four saves as John Carroll improved to 5-2-1 on the year. Geneva falls to 4-3-2.
