It was a record-setting game for John Carroll football in a 67-7 victory over Wilmington College on Saturday afternoon.
Anthony Moeglin tied the JCU single-game record for passing touchdowns with six; the freshman completed 19-of-24 passes for 257 yards. He equaled the mark set by
Tom Arth in 2002 and Mark Myers in 2012. The Blue Streaks set the all-time team mark with eight in the contest.
Marshall Howell caught nine passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns, topping Jeff Lerner's (1999-2002) all-time mark for receiving yards. Howell now sits at 2,607 yards for his career, passing Lerner's 2,580.
The defense held Wilmington to 66 total yards on 60 plays. The Quakers lost 30 yards on the ground on 29 carries.
Reese Armstrong picked off a Luke Creditt pass as well.
JCU flew out to a 16-0 lead after one quarter thanks to a safety and touchdown passes to
Luke Vadas and
Nico James. Vadas would finish the day with four catches for 77 yards and two scores.
Darrin Davis caught his first career TD with 8:45 left in the half, giving the Blue Streaks a 23-0 advantage.
Howell caught both of his touchdown in the third quarter from 21 yards and 12 yards, respectively.
Riley Larkin and
Brandon DiMarco stepped in at quarterback in the fourth quarter, and both tossed a touchdown pass. Larkin's first career touchdown came on a 34-yard pass to
Joe Pool early in the fourth quarter.
Derek Naim hauled in his first career score on DiMarco's pass with 5:25 to go.
Johnny Watson capped off the scoring with a 25-yard run with 1:56 left.
