Blue Streaks Keep Title Quest Alive With 3-1 Victory Over Raiders

Domination continues for John Carroll University.

A rough start in Alliance, Ohio would not be the determining factor for the visiting Blue Streaks. In an important Ohio Athletic Conference battle with the University of Mount Union ended with a 3-1 victory for the Blue Streaks. The win moves John Carroll to 10-5-2 overall and 7-0-1 in the conference. With the victory, JCU maintains reign atop of the conference standings with just one game remaining.

It would have to be a come from behind effort for the Blue Streaks.

The hosing Raiders jumped out to a 1-0 lead, thanks to a goal in the 23rd minute. The breakthrough tally came after both teams traded chances on either end of the field.

An equalizer was not far away from the Blue Streaks.

Jesse Marinaro provided an impressive strike in the 28th minute to even the match at one goal a side. The decisive strike came just 5:17 after the opening score sheet mark from Mount Union.

Marinaro now leads the team with eight goals on the year.

Both teams would have to settle for the 1-1 deadlock heading into the halftime break. However, the second half would be a nice change of pace for the visiting Blue Streaks.

Dalton Browsky would be the hero of the second half.

The junior striker started with a goal in the 49th minute, giving the Blue Streaks a 2-1 advantage. Hayden Parente was credited with his fourth assist on the year in helping give the Blue Streaks the lead.

It would be the John Carroll defense that stood strong throughout the second half. Mount Union managed just three shots on goal for the entire contest. Liam McIntosh stood strong after making two saves on the night.

McIntosh has been spectacular between the pipes for the Blue Streaks. The sophomore has allowed just four goals through eight conference matches.

The icing on the cake would come when Browsky secured the victory with a 90thminute goal. The play began when Mount Union packed the box on a set piece in the final minute. McIntosh made the save and then was credited with the assist on the scoring tally thanks to a quick restart. He punted the ball downfield that Browsky tracked down and essentially found an empty netter that gave the Blue Streaks a two goal advantage. The assist from the goalkeeper was also his first in his career.

With the two goals from Browsky, John Carroll secured the 3-1 win over Mount Union.

The three goal performance was the fourth time JCU scored three or more goals in conference play this season.

With the victory, John Carroll moves to 10-5-2 on the year, which includes a 7-0-1 record in the competitive OAC.

John Carroll needs a win at Muskingum Friday to secure an outright OAC championship. The Blue Streaks have 22 points to lead Ohio Northern (6-0-2, 20 points) by two points in the league standings.
