2016 OAC Men's Basketball Tournament Preview

The John Carroll University men's basketball team has qualified for the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament and will begin play as the host of a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, February 23.

Finishing the regular season with a 15-3 record in conference play, the Blue Streaks will be the No. 2 seed in the OAC Tournament. JCU will host No. 7 seed Capital (8-10 OAC) at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The Blue Streaks swept the Crusaders in the regular season, though each proved to be a difficult battle. JCU emerged with a narrow 75-74 victory in University Heights on January 4. The Blue and Gold then won 91-72 in Bexley on February 6.

The Blue Streaks hold a 40-34 overall series advantage, including the last six matchups. The two squads have met four times in the OAC Tournament, including once in the OAC Tournament quarterfinal. JCU holds a 3-1 advantage in such matchups and won the quarterfinal, 75-71, on February 24, 1993.

The winner of the JCU-Capital game will play the winner of the No. 6 Heidelberg at No. 3 Mount Union quarterfinal. Should JCU win, the Blue Streaks will host the semifinal matchup on Thursday. Should Capital win, the Crusaders will play on the road.

The Blue Streaks have appeared in the OAC Tournament each year for the past 27 seasons, registering a record of 25-24 (.510). The Blue and Gold have won the OAC Championship three times, in 2003, 2004, and 2009. Last season, JCU won its quarterfinal game at home against Heidelberg before falling to Mount Union in the semifinal.

Tickets for all OAC Basketball Tournament games are $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, and $2 for non-OAC students and youth. All OAC students are free with their student ID.
