Baserunners Bolster Offense In Softball Victory Over Cabrini

For the third time this week, John Carroll softball (3-3) split a doubleheader in Clermont, Fla. The Blue Streaks topped Cabrini, 4-2, followed by a 4-0 shutout loss to Augustana (Ill.) in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

The Blue Streaks stole five bases, controlling the basepaths in a 4-2 victory over Cabrini College on Wedneday afternoon.

Alyssa Coleman and Taylor Tercek each swiped two bases as John Carroll scored four early runs and held Cabrini scoreless for the final four innings.

JCU got going early against the Cavaliers. Tercek reached on an error to lead off, and promptly stole second. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Lauren Cianciolo drove her home on a sacrifice fly to center field.

In the second, a Christie Wade double set the stage for a Megan Sarles RBI single with two outs.

The final two runs came in the third. Tercek singled and stole second again. After Cianciolo advanced her to third, Tercek scored on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly by Carly Simecek scored Cianciolo.

Cabrini scored in the first on a Marissa Alpaugh single, and in the third on an error.

On the mound, Brianna Lach (1-1) held the Cavaliers to just the two runs, striking out three and walking two. Kaitlyn Hohmann (1-2) took the loss.

GAME TWO

After four scoreless innings, Augustana scored four unanswered runs to defeat the Blue Streaks, 4-0.

Both pitchers were cruising until the top of the fifth inning. AnnMarie Kirchner (0-2) surrendered two runs after four consecutive singles. A two-run single by Taylor Belo put the Vikings ahead.

In the sixth, two errors plated two Augustana runners. The 4-0 was too much for JCU to rally from.

With no outs in the seventh, the Blue Streaks made a run, loading the bases. Two strikeouts and a flyout ended the contest.

Ashley Anderson (3-1) earned the win, adding a 1-for-3 effort at the plate.

JCU is back in action on Thursday, with games against Hanover and Alma at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
