Baseball Falls In Last At-Bat At Oberlin

After a seven-run third inning, John Carroll looked to be in position to take a road contest at Oberlin.

However, a freshman hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth as Oberlin completed a 9-8 comeback at Dill Field on Wednesday.

Ian Dinsmore's RBI single capped a three-run comeback. Nathaniel Wenson (1-1) was the losing pitcher, while Milo Sklar was the winner in three innings of relief.

JCU (6-11) gave up four runs in the first inning to the Yeomen on six hits. In the third, the Blue Streaks answered. With the bases loaded and no outs, David Crowley doubled down the right field line, scoring two. Tyler Gentile singled in a run in the next at-bat, and Raschilla chased the Oberlin starter with a double to left field.

An RBI single from Dominic Mittiga and a sacrifice fly from Patrick Scholla pushed the lead to 6-4, before a James Molnar double to center field ended the scoring at seven.

Oberlin scored two runs in the fourth on an RBI single and sacrifice fly. The Yeomen took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on a single and groundout.

In the eighth, Rob Cifelli reached on an infield single, with Scholla scoring on a throwing error on the play. In the bottom of the ninth, Dinsmore's single ended the game on a full count and two outs. Dinsmore led the Yeoman with three hits and two RBI. Jake Reynolds also drove in two runs.

Joseph Franke, Mark Pisanello and Wenson all pitched for JCU, combining for eight strikeouts and just one walk. Ciffelli notched three hits in five trips, while Crowley led the team with two RBI. Every hitter in the JCU starting lineup reached base safely at least once, with four Blue Streaks recording extra-base hits.

Next up for JCU is a doubleheader with Ohio Northern on Saturday in Ada.
