The John Carroll softball team was swept by Otterbein University in a double header at Bracken Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Streaks fell to the Cardinals 4-0 in the first game, and 10-1 in the second game.
JCU falls to 13-13, 6-6 in the OAC, while Otterbein advances to 25-3-2, 12-0 in the OAC.
GAME ONE
Otterbein scored a quick two runs in the top of the first inning to get an early lead. Chey Rowe and Bailey McElwain both crossed home for the Cardinals. Then, in the third inning, Rachel Owens earned her second RBI of the day when she doubled to left center and scored Maddie Flasco to put the Cardinals up 3-0.
In the fourth, the Blue Streaks managed to get out of a bases loaded situation without any Cardinals scoring. To start of the bottom of the inning,
Carly Simecek hit a stand-up double. However, the inning ended before she could cross home plate.
At the top of the seventh, Molly Riggs singled scoring Flasco again to score the Cardinals' fourth and final run of game one.
Owens (14-1) finished with seven strikeouts and two RBI, while
Brianna Lach (4-4) had four strikeouts in the game.
GAME TWO
To start off the second game of the day, Flasco got ahold of a pitch from AnnMarie Kircher (6-4) and sent it over the centerfield fence. Her home run gave the Cardinals another early lead.
In the top of the fourth, Otterbein scored their second run as Gabby Johnson doubled to get Tony Speakman across home.
The following inning Owens came up big for the Cardinals once again for the day, scoring McElwain off of a single up the middle. This run put Otterbein up 3-0. However, JCU touched home for the first time of day as Simecek hit the ball up the middle scoring

During the sixth inning, the Cardinals started to run away with the game as they added seven more runs to give them a 10-1 lead. JCU could not answer with any runs, so the game ended in the bottom of the sixth.
JCU will travel to Meadville, PA on Tuesday, April 19 to take on Allegheny College at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
