Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Scoring Early And Often Pushes Men's Lacrosse To An OAC Road Win

John Carroll scored five goals in the first, second and third periods to pull away for a 17-2 victory at Muskingum University Wednesday evening in New Concord, Ohio.

It took nearly nine minutes for John Carroll to get on the scoreboard, but once it did, the floodgates opened. Dakota Thomas opened the gates with a goal at the 5:55 mark, and was followed by Declan O'Grady, MacGregor Roberts and Collin Riley. Thomas scored his second goal of the period with just 13 ticks left to make the score 5-0 after 15 minutes of play.

Collin Rice gave JCU a 6-0 lead before the Muskies would score back-to-back goals to cut the Blue Streaks led to 6-2 entering the final ten minutes of the half. But Riley would score tewice, O'Grady once and Connor Pike once to stake the visitors a 10-2 lead at the intermission.

O'Grady opened the second half with a goal, and then Michael Hubert -- who assisted on three of John Carroll's ten first half goals -- got into the scoring act with his first tally.

Offensively, O'Grady finished with four goals, while Pike, Rice, Riley and Thomas each had two. Hubert had four assists while Pike and Rice had three apiece.

Bryan Neitzelt led the defensive effort with nine ground balls.

The Blue Streaks outshot the Muskies, 60-9, and amassed a 39-12 advantage in ground balls. John Carroll also won 19 of a possible 20 faceoffs.

John Carroll is now 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. Muskingum slipped to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in league play.
