Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Otterbein, Moves Into Third in OAC

As the women's lacrosse season reaches the stretch run, every game is vital for playoff positioning. On Saturday afternoon, John Carroll vaulted into a good position with a key victory.

Gina Vilsack buried four goals as John Carroll drove to Westerville, Ohio and walked away with a hard-fought 12-10 win over Otterbein.

JCU improves to 3-2 in the OAC and slides into a tie for third place with Baldwin Wallace and Otterbein in the conference standings.

The teams traded goals in the early minutes, as Jillian Millard kicked it off with a score 2:44 into the game.

JCU took a two-goal lead at 6-4 after a score by Brooke McQuinn with 6:46 left in the half. Katy Williams leveled the score for the Cardinals with two key goals. Williams scored with 13 seconds left in the first half and 1:42 into the second.

Two goals from Vilsack and one from Alexis Guage over a two-minute period gave JCU a 9-6 lead. Eleven seconds later, Ali Kula scored for Otterbein. It was the first of three scores in just over 90 seconds.

John Carroll went on a 3-1 run to finish the game, including goals from Vilsack, Kaley LaForce and McQuinn.

Otterbein outshot JCU 29-26, including 19 shots on goal. Caroline Smith saved nine shots. JCU did lead the way in draw controls, taking 18 of 24.

JCU has two games remaining on their regular season schedule: Apr. 27 at Baldwin Wallace and Apr. 30 against Ohio Northern at home.
