Coming off a huge victory at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, the John Carroll women's lacrosse team clinched its second consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference playoff berth and the number three seed.
The Blue Streaks used the momentum from the win to defeat Ohio Northern University 20-9 at Don Shula Stadium on Saturday afternoon. John Carroll finished regular season 11-4, 5-2 in the OAC, while Ohio Northern finished their season 7-9, 2-5 in the OAC.
In addition to Saturday being the final game of regular season, JCU honored their lone senior,
Kaley LaForce, who finished the game with one assist, one caused turnover, and four ground balls.
Gina Vilsack led the JCU with four goals, while eight other Blue Streaks scored as well.
Grace Curatolo set the single-game record for assists with nine. ONU was led by Maddie Storr, who had four of their nine goals.
In the opening minute of play, Curatolo found Vilsack in scoring position to put John Carroll on the board first. The following nine minutes of play were dominated by the Blue Streaks, especially Jillian Millard who racked in back-to-back goals, Curatolo with one goal and two assists, and
Annamae Bolen with a goal. This early dominance was only stopped briefly as Ohio Northern's Storr fired back-to-back goals.
The Blue Streaks outscored the Polar Bears 9-3 the rest of the first half.
Meghan Harte led the surge with three goals, while Maggie Fuller scored two of ONU's three goals. John Carroll led Ohio Northern 14-5 going into the second half.
The Blue and Gold maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, despite a three-goal burst by the Polar Bears with just under 10 minutes remaining. JCU added just six more goals to secure the victory.
John Carroll outshot Ohio Northern 33-21, and they won 22 draw controls compared to ONU's nine.
Up next for the Blue Streaks will be the OAC tournament, however the opponent, date, and time are yet to be released.
