Kirchner's Two-Hitter The Highlight In Victory Over Baldwin Wallace

The John Carroll softball team split a doubleheader with crosstown rival Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME ONE

AnnMarie Kirchner put together a sterling effort in game one, blanking the Yellow Jackets and allowing just four baserunners in the 6-0 victory. The two-hitter for Kirchner (4-3) was punctuated by five strikeouts.

The Blue Streaks rolled at the plate, racking up four extra base hits. Carly Simecek had the biggest of all, with a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Maggie Gannon drove in two runs in the third inning with a double to left field.

The final run came on a Lauren Cianciolo single. JCU recorded nine hits on the afternoon.

GAME TWO

Jessica Cook and Brianna Lach split duties on the mound in game two, but Baldwin Wallace took the contest, 3-2.

Lach (2-3) took the loss, allowing the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning. At the plate, Lindsay McKnight was 2-for-3, but no other Blue Streak had a multi-hit game. Alyssa Coleman hit a double for JCU, and Angie Zappitelli and Cianciolo each drove in a run. McKnight added a stolen base.

Next up for JCU is a doubleheader with Wilmington at Bracken Field on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
