Blue Streaks Fall to Gators in Final Non-Conference Baseball Bout

In their final non-conference bout of the regular season, John Carroll fell to a squad on a red-hot winning streak.

Allegheny scored four in the second, defeating John Carroll, 6-4, at Schweickert Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Gators earned their tenth consecutive win.

Nathaniel Wenson (L, 1-2) got the start for JCU, throwing two innings. Steven Virost, Carter Semancik, Mark Materise and Drew Vargo also appeared, holding Allegheny to seven baserunners in seven innings.

JCU leaped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. David Crowley punched a ball up the middle for an RBI single. Patrick Scholla grounded out, but scored Crowley to make it 2-0.

In the top of the second, Tyler Wagner drove home Allegheny's first run with a double to left-field. Three batters later, Cy Perry had the at-bat of the day for the Gators. His sinking liner to right field rolled all the way to the wall, scoring Wagner and Chase Davis. An error on the throw to third base left Perry with a triple and an error that brought him home on the play.

Patrick Keohane singled to center to score Matthew Donnelly in the next half-inning. Allegheny added two in the fourth, extending the lead to 6-2.

A fielder's choice put Corwley on and scored Rob Cifelli in the seventh, but that was the final JCU run.

Kyle O'Donnell (W, 1-1) earned his first win after facing 30 batters and allowing six hits. He struck out seven JCU batters. Perry came on for the seventh, eighth and ninth, recording his first save of the year.

JCU stays home for the final regular-season doubleheader this Saturday. Senior Day with Capital is slated for 1:00 p.m.
