John Carroll Comes Up Short in Erie

Travels to Erie, PA were not kind to the John Carroll University men's soccer team on a Wednesday, Sept. 14 meeting with Penn State Behrend.

In the first action between the two programs since 2010, the Blue and Gold dropped a 1-0 decision to the Lions. John Carroll moves to 2-2-1 on the year with the loss.

The first half failed to yield any forward movement from either of the squads. Midfield play dictated most of the opening frame with neither side gaining much an offensive attack. PS Behrend fired off six shots in the first half that were all handled by sophomore goalkeeper Liam McIntosh. The John Carroll net minder finished with four saves on the night.

A scoreless first half was alleviated when a loose ball found the scoring foot of Matt Dziadosz in the 53rd minute. The tally from the hosts added a crooked line to the score sheet that would remain the only blemish for the remainder of the game.

Despite five shots and four corner kick opportunities from the Blue Streaks, no decisive strike was in the cards. The PS Behrend defense and goalkeeper Chris Ralph kept any JCU offensive advancement on hold to secure the win.

The loss to PS Behrend is the first for the Blue Streaks since a 1-0 decision in the 1998 season. John Carroll snaps a three game winning streak in the all-time series that was held since 1999.

John Carroll returns to Ohio for a match with Hiram College. Kick off is slated for Saturday, September 17 and 5:30 pm.
