Fischer Goals And Stifling Defense Carry JCU To Victory Over The Berg

John Carroll picked up its first Ohio Athletic Conference victory of the year by a 2-0 count over Heidelberg University on Wednesday night.

On the one end, it was junior Bailey Fischer delivering two first half daggers. On the other end, a JCU defense clamped down on a team that had scored 23 goals in its first 11 matches

The two-goal outburst moved the junior forward into seventh all-time in goals for the JCU program with 27. She currently sits three goals back of cracking the top five, and seven goals from moving into second place all-time.

Fischer opened up the scoring for John Carroll in the 26th minute, beating multiple Heidelberg defenders, and putting it past Alexandra Farmer for her first goal of the game.

Shortly after, Jaclyn Audino played a thru ball to Fischer in the 37th minute, and John Carroll's leading scorer did the rest, burying her second goal of the day and her ninth of the season.

JCU went into the break, up 2-0 against Heidelberg.

The Blue Streaks dominated in the first half outshooting the Berg, 16-2. Fischer attempted five shots, while Audino and Casey Lindstrom each took three shots a piece.

John Carroll could not stir up any more goals in the second half, but Heidelberg made it interesting getting multiple opportunities in the JCU box. The Blue Streak defense stood its ground en route to its second shutout in as many conference games.

Fischer had a chance to complete the hat trick in the 81st, but blasted a shot that careened off both posts before it was cleared out of Heidelberg territory.

John Carroll, which improved to 5-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the OAC, increased their win streak over Heidelberg to 11 straight wins, dating back to October 15, 2008. The Berg fell to 7-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in league play.

The Blue Streaks will remain home for their next match on Saturday October 7, as they will take on Marietta College (5-4-2, 1-1-0 OAC). Start time is set for 4 p.m.
