A tough final day in Florida where John Carroll dropped a pair of games left the Blue Streaks with an even 5-5 record at the conclusion of their week-long stay in Florida.
JCU dropped a 9-6 decision to Penn State Behrend, then fell by a 9-1 decision against nationally ranked Moravian.
The Blue Streaks opened the game against the Behrend Lions by scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The key hits were home runs by Hannah Mizener and Angie Zappitelli.
Unfortunately for John Carroll, the lead would not hold. The Lions scored seven times in the third and usurped the Blue Streaks advantage.
Penn State Behrend rapped out 12 hits and scored nine runs in improving to 3-6. JCU scored six runs on nine hits in dropping to 5-5.
Moravian lived up to its #14 ranking by scoring in six of seven innings and pounding out 11 hirs while JCU mustered three. Mizener had a first inning solo home run for the only tally for John Carroll.
Over the course of ten games, six batters finished with averages above .370 -- Zappitelli (.478), Lauren Ogurek (.475), Lindsay McKnight (.385), Carly Simecek (.375), Mizener (.371) and Jennie Broski (.368). The team as a whole batted. 295.
In the hits category, Mizener led the way with 13 hits, followed by Simecek (12), Zappitelli (11) and McKnight (10).
Mizener also led the team with nine RBI and had four of the Blue Streaks six home runs.
On the pitching side, Kelly Geringer had the low ERA for the week with a mark of 2.86. She also was the team leader in strikeouts with 13.
