Early Second Half Run Fuels Women's Lacrosse Road Win

John Carroll women's lacrosse won their second consecutive road game with a 14-7 win over Kenyon College on Saturday in Gambier, Ohio.

Gina Vilsack scored four goals and added an assist as the leading point scorer for JCU, who improve to 4-2 on the season. Grace Curatolo, Colleen Grombala and Brooke McQuinn each notched three goals, with Curatolo and McQuinn each tallying an assist.

Cassie Hudson-Heck scored four times for Kenyon (2-3), who were turned away seven times by JCU goalkeeper Caroline Smith. The Blue and Gold outshot Kenyon, 49-20, and dominated the ground ball battle, 27-13. McQuinn was a force on draw controls, adding 12 to lead JCU to an 18-5 lead in the category.

McQuinn scored at the 23:43 mark of the first half, and John Carroll took a 2-0 lead four minutes later on a Grombala shot. After a Kenyon goal, John Carroll ripped off three straight. Curatolo scored twice in 64 seconds, and McQuinn capped off the run three minutes later at 10:34.

Kenyon drew closer with a pair of goals, but JCU held a 5-3 halftime lead.

The Blue and Gold scored six of the first seven goals out of the gate, kicked off by a pair of Vilsack goals less than four minutes into second half play. They increased their advantage to 11-4 with 13:09 left.

Kenyon would score three more times, but JCU kept pace with three of their own. The Blue Streaks keep their momentum heading into the OAC opener on Saturday, Mar. 25 at 1:00 p.m. in University Heights.
