The offense exploded in game two on Saturday afternoon, as John Carroll baseball split their Ohio Athletic Conference opener with Baldwin Wallace in Berea.
John Carroll is 7-10 on the year, and 1-1 in OAC play. Baldwin Wallace drops to 1-3 in conference matchups.
Game One - Baldwin Wallace 8, John Carroll 3
Baldwin Wallace scored six runs in the first two innings, giving their pitching staff a solid lead in an 8-3 win in game one.
The Yellow Jackets scored four in the first and two in the second, overcoming two early runs by the Blue Streaks.
Drew Vargo (L, 0-2) went five innings on the mound, allowing seven runs.
Carter Semancik tossed the final three innings, giving up two and striking out four Yellow Jackets.
Evan Lovick (W, 3-1) went eight innings and struck out seven. John Carroll managed eight hits, led by
Monroe Donnelly (3-for-4),
Patrick Keohane (2-for-5) and
Dominic Mittiga (2-for-4).
Monroe Donnelly singled up the middle in the top of the first for the game's first run. In the third, Mittiga singled to right field and scored
John Bondi. In the ninth,
Derek Penman singled to left for JCU's third run.
Game Two - John Carroll 12, Baldwin Wallace 5
A six-run second inning and five-run sixth inning propelled John Carroll to its first OAC win of the season, as the Blue Streaks took a 12-5 win.
Three Blue Streaks had three hits and two RBI:
Joe Charpentier,
Monroe Donnelly and
Patrick Keohane. Aaron Zawadski also went 3-for-4, knocking home one RBI and walking once.
Jake Servidio earned his first win of the year, allowing just two runs in five innings. Out of the bullpen,
Steven Virost escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth, only surrendering one run in 2.2 innings.
Mark Materise pitched a scoreless ninth to end the game.
John Carroll piled on six runs in the second inning. Keohane doubled home two, followed by a
Monroe Donnelly RBI single that scored two more on an error. Mittiga capped off the inning with a single to right field that scored Donnelly.
BW fought back with two runs, but John Carroll slammed the door in the sixth. A fielder's choice scored Keohane, and
Monroe Donnelly plated Bondi on a single.

After a trio of Baldwin Wallace runs in the next two innings, Aaron Zawadski made it one dozen runs for John Carroll in the top of the eighth. His single to right field scored
Matthew Donnelly and made it 12-5.
