For the second consecutive game, John Carroll baseball racked up runs in their final at-bat.
John Carroll scored eight runs in the top of the ninth as the Blue Streaks blasted Moravian, 15-6, on Thursday afternoon in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Nathan Reich and
Monroe Donnelly each had three hits on the afternoon, with Reich driving in four runs. Donnelly had two extra-base hits.
Joe Charpentier had two RBI, as did
Patrick Keohane. John Carroll recorded 15 hits in the game.
Drew Vargo toed the mound for John Carroll, allowing eight hits in 4.2 innings.
Mark Materise (1-0) entered in relief and effectively shut down the Greyhounds. Â
John Carroll's lineup went down in order to start the game. Moravian scored first, plating four in the second inning on four hits. After a walk and an error, the Greyhounds scored on an RBI double, a groundout, a bunt single, and a single punched through the left side.
John Carroll answered back. JCU loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the third.
Monroe Donnelly poked a ball through the left side for an RBI single, and Charpentier followed with a two run bouncing single into left field.
JCU once again loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth inning.
Patrick Scholla singled, followed by a fielder's choice for Reich and walk by
John Bondi.Keohane smacked a ball to center that brought home Scholla on a sacrifice fly to even the score.
Derek Penman's hard grounder up the middle was scooped up by the shortstop, but a hard slide into second broke up the double play. In the next at-bat,
Monroe Donnelly drove home Reich on a single past the shortstop, but Penman was cut down at second by the centerfielder to end the inning.
A third consecutive inning of loading the bases with no outs forced out Moravian's starter. After a strikeout, Reich hit a high chopper between first and second to plate two more runs.
Moravian scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to chase Vargo, but Materise entered from the bullpen and shut down the Greyhounds through the seventh.
Christopher Houle made two sliding stops at third base in the bottom of the seventh to take away base hits, preserving the 7-6 lead into the eighth inning.
Materise concluded the eighth with a flyout to left, a strikeout, and a flyout to right. All told, Moravian managed one base runner against Materise in 4.1 innings.

Monroe Donnelly doubled to start the frame and Charpentier was struck with a pitch in the helmet to put runners at first and second.
Matthew Donnelly drove them both home with a long triple to left, making it 9-6.
Reich added to the JCU lead with a two RBI single that was followed by a Moravian error that drove across another Blue Streak run. Keohane sent a single through the middle that plated Reich. Penman would keep the rally going by singling home another RBI to extend the JCU lead to 14-6.
The ninth inning scoring would conclude with
Monroe Donnelly hitting into a double play that plated Keohane and gave JCU a 15-6 lead.
With the win, John Carroll improves to 4-4 on the season. Moravian falls to 2-6. The Blue Streaks will take on the Giants of Keystone College on Friday at 9:00 a.m. in Port Charlotte.
