Softball Tops Allegheny In Wednesday Road Sweep

John Carroll softball earned another sweep on Wednesday afternoon, moving their win streak to seven with a pair of wins at Allegheny College

Game One - John Carroll 6, Allegheny 2

Jennifer Patterson picked up her first victory of the season, moving to 1-1 on the year. Hannah Mizener, Sobieszczanski, and Carly Simecek all recorded an RBI and two hits in the victory.

The Blue Streaks got the sticks going early in the second inning rattling off four runs, Elizabeth Fraas recorded a double to left center field advancing Jennie Broski to third base.

After a passed ball, Broski rushed home scoring the first run of the inning, while Fraas moved over to third base. Kala Mahen, walked Victoria Eder and followed that up by hitting Maggie Gannon, loading the bases.

Quinn Sobieszczanski singled up the middle scoring Fraas, while keeping the bases loaded. The senior duo of Lauren Cianciolo and Carly Simecek each singled scoring the final two runs of the inning. Allegheny was able to battled back and score two runs of their own, making the score 4-2 after three innings of play.

JCU added two runs in the sixth, Olivia Schweiger scored on a Hannah Mizner RBI, while Sobieszczanski advanced to third base. Sobieszczanski would score on the double steal attempt.

Game Two - John Carroll 7 , Allegheny 4

Jessica Cook took the mound in game two and pitched five innings, allowing zero earned runs, and striking out three batters.

Allegheny scored first in the third inning, when Abrianna Sadler singled through the right side of the infield scoring Maria DiDonato.

The Blue and Gold would respond in the next half inning, where Hannah Mizener would hit a two-run double, giving JCU a 2-1 lead after four innings of action.

John Carroll would pull away in the fifth inning scoring five runs. AnnMarie Kirchner would score on a passed ball, while four different Blue Streaks would walk in a run.

Allegheny would make it interesting in the seventh inning scoring three runs, but would come up short as JCU would hold on and win their seventh game in a row.

Mizener led the way for JCU with two hits, adding two RBI's. The Blue Streaks showed their patience at the plate recording eight walks. Jessica Cook would improve to 4-0 on the season with the win.

With the sweep, John Carroll improves to 15-10, (6-4) and have won seven consecutive games. The win in game two marked the 100th in the collegiate coaching career of JCU mentor Nicole Loudin.

Next up the Blue Streaks will travel to Westerville, Ohio Friday for a double header against the Otterbein Cardinals. First pitch is set for 1:00  p.m.
