After a loss in game one on Friday afternoon, John Carroll bounced back, scoring eight in a game two win to preserve a split with Otterbein.
Game One - Otterbein 9, John Carroll 3
John Carroll took an early lead, but Otterbein put five on the board in the second
inning on the way to a 9-3 victory in game one.
Derek Penman was 2-for- with an RBI for John Carroll, and
Matthew Donnelly and
Dominic Mittiga drove in runs as well.
Drew Vargo goes to 1-4 on the year.
After a 1-2-3 first for Vargo,
Patrick Keohane doubled down the right field line, and Penman knocked him in with a double to left center. After a strikeout, Mittiga singled through the right side for an RBI.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Matthew Donnelly doubled to left center for an RBI.
Otterbein scored three in the eighth inning.
James Molnar entered in the inning and threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit.
Game Two - John Carroll 8, Otterbein 5
John Carroll broke the game open with a four-run second inning, taking game two, .
The first five batters in the JCU lineup each had an RBI.
Monroe Donnelly went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Dominic Mittiga drove in a pair on 2-for-4 at the plate.
Jake Servidio (3-2) pitched 6.2 innings, giving up five in the victory.
Otterbein scored two runs in the top of the first, and John Carroll answered back with a run after an error by the second baseman in the bottom frame.
In the second, a Keohane RBI double started the party. Penman grounded out for a second run, followed by a mammoth triple to left field by
Monroe Donnelly that made the score 4-2. A sacrifice fly from Mittiga ended the scoring at 5-2.
???????Servidio stranded two over the next two frames. Bondi reached on an error in the third, scoring Zawadski. In the fourth, Mittiga sliced a ball up the middle for an RBI.
Matthew Donnelly nearly left the yard in right center, doubling to make the score 8-2.
???????Servidio would surrender a run in the seventh, and
Steven Virost entered for JCU. Virost allowed two more to cross, but would not surrender another run.
John Carroll is home on Apr. 19 to take on Otterbein at 1:00 p.m.Â
