Opportunistic Offense And Strong Defense Leads To Road Win Over Muskies

For the second time in three games, the John Carroll women's lacrosse team tied a program record by scoring 22 goals. Just as it did last time, the highly productive offensive display led to an emphatic victory.

JCU earned its third Ohio Athletic Conference win of the year with a 22-7 triumph over the Muskingum Fighting Muskies (6-9, 2-4 OAC) on Friday afternoon in New Concord, Ohio. The Blue Streaks also scored a program-high 22 goals against Wilmington six days ago.

JCU's Meghan Harte and Gina Vilsack each scored five goals on the afternoon. Grace Curatolo notched a team-high ten points off of three goals and seven assists.

Muskingum's Ashley Adams led the way for the host team with a game-high six goals.

A total of ten Blue Streaks scored at least one goal in the game, as JCU ripped off 37 shots on goal to Muskingum's ten.

John Carroll scored the first eight goals unanswered, with Vilsack tallying three of her four within the first 5:42 of the game.

Adams stopped the Blue Streaks' scoring spree with the first goal for Muskingum, but the visitors retaliated by scoring four straight to take a 12-1 lead. Both teams exchanged scores, as Moira Kelley and Harte notched two more before the end of the half.

After a few goals back-and-forth, the Blue Streaks scored six unanswered down the stretch to reach the program's high water mark of 22 markers.

The Blue Streaks finished the game winning 23 of the 31 draw controls on the day, and collecting 28 ground balls to Muskingum's 14. In goal, all three goalkeepers for JCU logged time, as they collected three saves. Megan Sarles, who started, picked up the win.

Up next, JCU will travel to Ohio Northern next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. showdown. This will be the last regular season away game for the Blue Streaks, as they finish out the campaign with two home games.
