John Carroll women's lacrosse once again turned in a complete effort, earning their fifth win in the month of April.
JCU opened up an 11-0 lead in the first half on the way to a 23-3 victory over Heidelberg University on Wednesday night in University Heights, Ohio.
John Carroll is now 10-4, and 5-2 in the OAC. With the victory, John Carroll clinches its third straight 10-win season. Heidelberg is now 0-11 and 0-7 in OAC play.
Grace Curatolo recorded her 250th career point on a goal, with the help of a
Gina Vilsack assist, to make the score 8-0 in the first half. Curatolo, a junior, is the first Blue Streaks women's lacrosse player to reach the milestone.
Curatolo led John Carroll with 10 points on the evening; she scored two goals and assisted on five more. The final assist of the night for Curatolo gave her 100 points on the season. She is the first Blue Streak to ever reach that mark in a single season.
Gina Vilsack scored four times and assisted on four scores.
Alexis Guage had three assists and four total points.
In goal,
Caroline Smith,
Elyssa Zablo, and
Megan Sarles combined to hold Heidelberg to just three goals.
Brooke McQuinn scored the first goal of the day just 1:12 into the proceedings; Vilsack assisted on the play. Vilsack would score her first goal three minutes later. Goals from
Meghan Harte, McQuinn, Gauge,
Moira Kelley and Vilsack opened the lead up to 7-0 just ten minutes into play.
After Curatolo's milestone assist, JCU scored three more before Heidelberg got its first goal.
Colleen Grombala and
Madison Pesicka each found the back of the net before the half.
JCU won the ground ball battle in the first half, 17-3. The Blue Streaks took 10 of 15 draw controls. JCU's defense held Heidelberg to just one clear in seven attempts.
Mandy Cheravitch scored a hat trick in a 10 minute span midway through the second half. Grombala also notched her second and third goals in the second period.
JCU would win the overall ground ball battle, 25-6. Heidelberg managed just three clears in the contest, and were held to seven shots. The Blue and Gold dominated draw controls, taking 19 of 27.
JCU is home for Senior Night on Saturday against Otterbein at 6:00 p.m.
