Pitching Paces John Carroll To Split With Wooster

John Carroll softball earned a non-conference split with The College of Wooster on Sunday afternoon, falling in game one before taking game two.

Hannah Mizener earned her 100th career hit with a single through the left side in the fifth inning of game two. John Carroll goes to 10-10 overall on the season. Wooster is now 12-16.

Game One - Wooster 1, John Carroll 0

Wooster won the pitcher's duel in game one, as Maddy Chase just edged out AnnMarie Kirchner for a 1-0 victory. The lone Fighting Scots run came in the first inning on a RBI single.

Hannah Mizener, Carly Simecek, Maggie Gannon, and Kirchner each had a hit in the loss. Kirchner gave up the one run on seven hits, striking out a pair.

John Carroll threatened in the fourth, as Simecek doubled and was moved to third by a sacrifice bunt by Lindsay McKnight. A pop up and groundout ended the inning for the Blue Streaks. 

Wooster retired the final eight John Carroll batters to secure the victory.

Game Two - John Carroll 2, Wooster 0

Kelly Geringer tossed a complete game shutout as the Blue Streaks took a 2-0 win in the second game.

Mizener was 3-for-4 on the afternoon, getting her 100th hit in the fifth inning. Lindsay McKnght was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

John Carroll scored in the first inning. Mizener doubled to lead off the game. After two outs, an error by the second baseman allowed Mizener to score. Mizener set the plate again in the third, singling up the middle. After Mizener stole second, a McKnight punch up the middle scored the leadoff hitter.

Meanwhile, Geringer retired 12 of the first 14 hitters. She struck out six total in the game, only facing 25 batters.

In the seventh, Geringer walked a batter, setting up the tying run at the plate. She promptly forced a fly out and and a pop up to first to end the contest.

John Carroll heads home for the second of five doubleheaders this week. First pitch with Mount Union is set for 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
