One day after winning the first postseason game in program history, the John Carroll men's lacrosse season ended in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
For the second consecutive year, the season ended in Rochester, New York.
The Blue Streaks fell to host and #3 ranked Rochester Institute of Technology, 29-8, on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Stadium.Â
John Carroll's (13-4) season ends with a program record 13 wins, including 10 against Ohio Athletic Conference competition. The Blue and Gold went a perfect 10-0 against OAC foes on the way to a sweep of regular season and tournament titles.
Declan O'Grady scored three goals in the loss, ending the year with 10 goals in NCAA play and 12 career goals in the NCAA Tournament.
Michael Hubert and
Collin Rice each scored twice, and Breaden Kaib added a goal.
Tommy Adolf and
Skyler Blake each assisted on a score.
Kaib also won 10-of-28 faceoffs, and picked up four ground balls. RIT won the ground ball battle, 63-25, and won 25-of-39 faceoffs.
RIT scored the first five goals of the game, but John Carroll did not disappear. Kaib scored 16 seconds after RIT scored its fifth goal. The Tigers scored once more, but O'Grady scored twice and Hubert added a tally in the final seconds to pull the score to 6-4 after one period.
The Tigers would control the second and third periods, scoring 18 goals. John Carroll would notch four more, as Rice and O'Grady scored in the half's final 5:31. In the third, Rice tallied his second less than three minutes into the half. Hubert scored his second goal 90 seconds later.
RIT would score five more times to bring the final score to a close.
This game marked the end of the first four seasons of John Carroll men's lacrosse, and with it the careers of the 11-member senior class.Â
