Considering the way things had gone recently for the John Carroll baseball team, any win would be a good win.

That is why a 7-6 win Wednesday over DePauw was as much a cause for celebration as it was a sigh of relief. the victory snapped a three-game skid dating back to March 18.

Victory was achieved by using a plethora of pitchers to accomplish the task of defeating DePauw. Freshman Duncan Cappar earned his second start of the season, throwing two shutout innings. Carter Semancik earned his first victory of the season, coming on in relief. He was followed by Cameron Mayle, Nicholas Michel and Andrew Steele.

It was also a solid day for the JCU offense. Patrick Keohane executed his leadoff role perfectly going 3-3, scoring three times, while driving in two runs. Dom Mittiga -- batting in the three hole -- scored twice and knocked in two RBI.

In the first inning, John Carroll capitalized off multiple Tiger mistakes, the first being Keohane getting hit by a pitch. Following an error by the pitcher, Keohane advanced to third with two out. Joe Charpentier came up to bat and roped one to left field scoring the first run of the game.

The third inning saw DePauw bouncing back. The Tigers scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead over the Blue Streaks.

However, the Tigers lead would be held for a short period of time as John Carroll answered in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs of their own. Sam Heaton started off the inning singling up the middle to center field.

Keohane then showed off his power with a two run shot over the left field fence, good for his third home run of the season.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the top of the JCU lineup was due up in the fifth, which would be in the Blue Streaks favor. Mike McCarty scored his first run of the game when Mittiga singled up the middle, giving JCU a 4-2 lead.

A throwing error would push Mittiga to second base, Charpentier once again would make the Tigers pay for their mistake singling to center field and scoring Mittiga.

DePauw once again would not give up scoring two runs in the seventh inning cutting the Blue Streaks lead to 5-4.

John Carroll would respond in the bottom half of the seventh scoring two runs of their own.

The Tigers showed one last attempt in the eighth scoring two runs.

Nursing a one-run advantage, John Carroll brought on Andrew Steele for the save opportunity,. he would get the final five outs for his fourth save of the year.

Next up, John Carroll will travel to Wilmington for a doubleheader with the Fightin' Quakers. The game has been moved to Saturday, March 31, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
