The third attempt to schedule a conference doubleheader against Wilmington College played in the favor of the Blue and Gold. John Carroll clicked on all cylinders en route to a sweep over the Fightin' Quakers, scoring 28 runs over the course of the two games.

Game One - John Carroll 18, Wilmington 4
After having over a week off, JCU was ready to rock and roll against Wilmington.

Aaron Zawadzki and Dominic Mittiga each had career days against the Fightin' Quakers -- Zawadzki matching a career-high five RBIs, Mittiga adding four of his own the victory.

Scoring five times in the game, Zawadzki tied the second most runs scored in a single game in Blue Streak history.

Mittiga started the strong offensive attack in the first inning with a sacrifice fly deep enough to score Zawadzki. The junior continued his success at the dish, this time he would reach base safely with a double driving in two more runs. John Carroll would own a 5-1 lead at the end of three innings.

Back-to-back doubles by the dynamic duo of Mittiga and Zawadzki in the fourth would blow the game wide open giving the Blue and Gold a 9-1 lead.

Steve Virost pitched seven innings allowing three runs during his time on the mound.

In the seventh inning, Zawadzki kept his foot on the gas, roping a triple, driving in two more runs giving the Blue Streaks a 13-3 lead.

John Carroll added four more runs in the ninth to finish with 18 runs, the most since the Blue Streaks pummeled Heidelberg for 19 runs on April 21, 2017.

Game Two - John Carroll 10, Wilmington 4
In the second game of the doubleheader, John Carroll rode the momentum of game one and scored early and outlasted Wilmington.

Michael Anderson scored in the third inning following a Mittiga sacrifice fly.

In the fifth inning, Anderson took matters into his own hands ripping his first collegiate homerun, giving the Blue and Gold a 3-1 advantage.

Patrick Keohane hit his fourth homer of the season in the seventh inning, giving JCU a 6-3 lead. Keohane has now reached base safely in 17 consecutive games, and extended his hitting streak to eight consecutive outings.

Still, the host Quakers refused to go quietly. With Wilmington adding a run in the bottom of the seventh off starter John Merrill, the score was 6-4 heading into the eighth inning in favor of JCU.

Once the Blue Streaks turned the game over to their bullpen, however, it was lights out.Cameron Mayle and Andrew Steele threw two shutout innings, each allowing one hit a piece. In the meantime, the Blue and Gold tacked on two runs in both the eighth and the ninth inning to put the game out of reach,

Merrill worked seven innings and allowed four runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one in improving to 2-2 on the year.

Next up, John Carroll will host Muskingum University for an OAC doubleheader Saturday, April 7, that will serve as the Schweickert FIeld home opener. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., weather permitting.
