JCU Road Warriors Improve To 13-8 On The Year With Sweep Of Muskingum

Monroe Donnelly (#37)
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 John Carroll has now started the season by playing its first 21 games away from Schweickert Field. On five occasions they have been the home team in someone else's stadium. Such was the case today at Muskingum.

Just days after scoring 28 runs in a doubleheader against Wilmington, JCU tagged the scoreboard 17 times today, which was more than enough for a Blue Streak pitching staff that surrendered just four.

Game 1 -  John Carroll 10, Muskingum 1
John Carroll plays best when they score early, giving their pitching staff run support in the first inning of action.  The Blue and Gold scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, which would be all the support Freddy Moore would need. Moore pitched a remarkable game one, allowing a single run in 7 innings, allowing four hits while improving to 3-1 on the year.

In the third inning Monroe Donnelly sent a shot over the fence giving JCU a 3-0 lead.

Patrick Keohane took care of business at the dish going 3-3, scoring four times in the contest. The kind of day he had was epitomized by his fifth inning exploits. he walked to lead off the inning, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error, and then scored on a ground out to make the score 4-0.

John Carroll added four runs of insurance in the seventh inning with David Ferguson providing the big blow with a two-run single.

Dom Mittiga and Monroe Donnelly each had RBI hits in the eighth to push the Blue Streaks to the ten-run plateau for the eighth time this season.

Game 2 - John Carroll 7, Muskingum 3
The Blue Streaks followed suit in game one by scoring in the first frame, but this time they scored four runs. Once again, Keohane caused chaos by leading off with a single and promptly stealing second. Mittiga and Monroe Donnelly each had RBI hits in the opening frame.

Muskingum showed signs of life multiple times, but John Carroll always responded.

Duncan Cappar threw three shutout innings before the Fighting Muskies put two runs on the scoreboard in the fourth inning.

John Carroll had Cappar's back in the bottom half of the inning. Monroe Donnelly roped a double down the left field line bringing in two runs, neutralizing Muskingum's best inning of the day.

The Fighting Muskies would add one run against Cappar in the fifth, being their last run of the day.

Mittiga stepped up to the dish with a three run lead and sent a shot over the fence in left field giving JCU a 7-3 lead.

Cameron Mayle came on in relief in the eighth inning forcing a 6-4-3 double play ending Muskingum's chance of coming back, John Carroll improves to 13-8, (4-2 OAC) on the year. The Blue Streaks are currently tied for second in the OAC with Ohio Northern and Mount Union, one game behind Marietta at 5-1.

Monroe Donnelly was 4-9 with four runs and six RBI at the dish for the day, Mittiga was 5-9 with three runs and four RBI, and Keohane was 4-7 with six runs scored and five stolen bases.

Up next, the Blue Streaks will travel to Tiffin, Ohio to take on Heidelberg University in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 10. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
