Box Score The warm weather woke up the bats for the Blue Streaks.
John Carroll (19-15, 8-8 OAC) defeated crosstown rival No. 12 Case Western (25-10, 12-4 PAC), 10-9.
The Blue and Gold are familiar with knocking down ranked opponents after defeating No. 2 College of Wooster and splitting with No. 20 Marietta. Â Senior
Monroe Donnelly had an excellent day as he went 3-5 with 3 RBIs. Junior Pat Keohane went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a home run.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Blue Streaks led off with back-to-back singles by junior
Patrick Keohane and sophomore Aaron Zawadski. Then, Donnelly singled up the center to bring Keohane and Zawadski home. Junior
Derek Penman singled to right field to send junior Dom Mittiga home. Penman went on to score on a throwing error from Spartan's catcher, Tyler Wypiszenski, to put the Blue Streaks on top 4-0.
Case pitcher Matt Levine would only survive 1.2 innings before a pitching change would occur, sending Tony Smodilla to the mound for the Spartans.
The Blue Streaks scored again in the bottom of the second inning with two outs. Mittiga had an RBI single to bring Freshman
Christian Cassaro home.
Monroe Donnelly tripled to center field, eventually stealing home and extending the Blue and Gold lead to 7-0.
The scoring parade would not stop in the third inning. Keohane had a sacrifice fly to center to bring
Michael Anderson home to extend the lead 8-0. Â Case Western remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. Senior Alex Capetillo homered to center field to put the Spartans on the board. Then, Cappar walked Benjamin Stawicki home to cut the Blue Streaks lead to 8-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans had another pitching change to bring sophomore Tony Yamor to the mound. Freshman
Duncan Cappar allowed two runs on four hits over four innings.
Spartans Capetillo stepped up to the plate and banged a two-run homer to left field to cut the Blue Streaks lead, 8-4 in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Keohane singled Anderson home to extend the Blue and Gold lead, 9-4.
The Spartans added another run in the top of the sixth on an RBI double from Samuel Neal to cut the Blue and Gold's lead, 9-5. Â Sophomore
Cameron Mayle (3-1) replaced Cappar in the top of the fifth inning, allowing three runs on three hits over three innings. Â In the bottom of the seventh, Keohane homered to center field to extend the Blue Streaks lead, 10-5.
Freshman
Nicholas Michel relieved Mayle in the top of the eighth to close out the ball game. Â
Spartans grabbed another run in the top of the eighth on a RBI double from Neal to make the score, 10-6.
In the top of the ninth, Spartans freshman Jake Ryan hammered a three-run homer to center field to cut the Blue Streaks lead, 10-9.
The Blue Streaks defense would hold on to defeat the Spartans, 10-9.
The Blue Streaks will host their final non-conference game against Westminster on Wednesday, May 2. The first pitched is scheduled for 4 p.m. Â
